A wedding in Portofino – Interview with my brides

Being born and living on the Italian Riviera I feel a magic atmosphere in this area, but having to describe it, being so familiar for me, it is paradoxically quite difficult.

I therefore decided to ask my Brides why they have chosen to celebrate their wedding in Portofino. I’ve been surprised by the loads of answers I got, all so different and so true at the same time.

Some brides say that their choice fell on Portofino because they wanted a charming, glamourous, sophisticated atmosphere – which I feel is a real good reason to get married in Portofino!
Since the 1950’s this quaint little fishing town has become the summer resort for many Hollywood stars and European royals. With its dramatic views, warm weather, upscale shops Portofino is the incarnation of the Dolce Vita.

On the contrary others answered they wanted an intimate, cosy and peaceful envinroment to feel as at home, with their friends and families…and this is surely another really nice and worthy reason to plan a Portofino wedding.

“Feeling plunged into an historical building, very old, quaint, and candle lit – with the stones talking about man’s history and romantic torches to witness our ceremony at dusk, exaclty when the sun goes down into the sea ,where music and the sea breeze mingle and play together…” This is how an American couple describes their civil ceremony at Castle Brown.

Castello Brown is 14th century fortress that sits atop the hill overlooking Portofino and offers picturesque views of the harbour and open sea.
I have recently discovered that the two striking pines that have become an inseparable part of the Portofino skyline were planted by the Consul, representing him and his bride, and to celebrate their marriage. How romantic is that!?

Tina and Josh instead wished for a religious ceremony because the view from the Church of San Giorgio is breathtaking and it is worth the climb. No other Church in the area offers such great panorama. Perched on the hill above the harbour, the Church of San Giorgio has in fact been a dramatic backdrop for Tina e Josh’s Catholic wedding ceremony.

Other brides wanted bright colours and all the traditional feeling of a pictoresque fishing village on the Italian Riviera: the bride coming by boat, walking on the dock of the famous little square, beside the emerald water of the tiny harbour, through the pink, yellow, orange, green narrow houses, accross the lined famous shops, cafès and restaurant ..

And when you enjoy the privilege of hearing feedbacks from your couple’s guests, you understand another very good reason to have a wedding in Portofino: they will be forever grateful to the generous and caring bride and groom for the rest of their lives as it is difficult in a lifetime to discover and see places with such an unexpected beauty as Portofino!

Matching tradition and fashion is definitely a MUST if getting married in Portofino one of the top wedding locations of Italy.
