The "Castles", in ancient times, were noble villas scattered throughout the hillside villages in the Roman countryside. In modern times, they have become vacation spots for Romans as well as foreign visitors. Surrounded by stunning views, Roman Castles Park protects notable and interesting flora and fauna. Beautiful scenery is everywhere you look. Take for instance the Gandolfo Castle, summer residence to Popes and chosen by Emperor Domitian as the site of his sumptuous imperial Palace.

It offers spectacular views of Albano Lake where the splendid village homes reflected in transparent waters seem to dance between light and shadow. And another, ESTE Villa, with its splendid Italian gardens and the magnificent effects created by a thousand fountains make it a one of a kind attraction. Historians have described them: "wherever you look water plays in so many ways and with such splendor of design that there is no place on earth that even remotely compares .". And last but not least, Villa Adriana, the largest and most splendid of all the Roman Imperial Villas, a magnificent model of architectural and sculptural importance. Thermal baths, nymphs, gardens and a large park characterize the site. It was built between 118 and 134 AD by command of Emperor Adriano who personally designed the project.
