Locations > Apulia > The Gargano

The Gargano is a peninsula, partly mountainous and partly covered by The Foresta Umbra, sometimes compared to the “Black Forest”, with a typical vegetation of the central Europe: beech trees, maple trees, oaks, pine , from which the sunlight filters out, creating a mysterious atmosphere. The word Umbra means “Shadow”.

The coast is rich in beaches and accommodations. In the northern part of Gargano we found the lakes of Lesina and Varano. Mattinata and Vieste offer a marvellous seaview on the Adriatico: a picturesque landscape, a crystal-clear and transparent water, coasts whose cliffs and rocks evoke mermaid’s and Cyclop’s legends and Ulisse’s stories. Inside this almost fantastic world , we find basils and rocks Churches. Gargano is famous for its religious destination such as San Giovanni Rotondo in which Padre Pio lived; Monte Sant’Angelo, with its wood, fashinating and rich in stories and legends , where you can taste the delicious local dishes in typical Apulian farm houses that welcome you wishing a nice stay.
